My Merino Wool Camping Essentials

My Merino Wool Camping Essentials

Camping has always been one of my favourite ways to slow down and reconnect with myself, my family and the natural world. Whether we're in a tent or on a boat, I find myself reaching for many of the same Merino pieces every time.

Over the years I've learned that packing fewer, more versatile items makes camping easier—and Merino wool is one of the hardest-working materials in my pack.

Here are a few of my camping essentials.

1. Merino Underwear

If I could only bring one Merino item camping, it would probably be Merino underwear.

It regulates temperature in both warm and cool weather, dries quickly after hand washing, and can comfortably be worn for multiple days when needed.

When space is limited, being able to pack fewer pairs without sacrificing comfort is a huge advantage.

2. A Merino Bralette or Supportive Crop

Comfort matters when you're living outdoors.

A Merino bralette or supportive crop is often the first thing I pack because it works for hiking, relaxing around camp, paddling, and sleeping.

The breathability and softness make it far more comfortable than many synthetic alternatives, especially during multi-day trips.

3. A Lightweight Merino Dress

A Merino dress is one of the most versatile items in my camping wardrobe.

It can be worn around camp, into town for supplies, at the beach, or dressed up slightly for dinner after a day outside.

I love pieces that can serve multiple purposes, and a simple Merino dress earns its place in my bag every time.

4. A Merino Sweat Set

Even in summer, mornings and evenings around camp can be surprisingly cool. And in mountainous areas of the the Pacific North West, middle-of-the night camping temperatures can get downright cold.

A Merino Sweat Set helps bridge the gap between daytime adventures and chilly evenings. It's often the layer I wear the most throughout a camping trip.

5. Merino Swimwear

One of the unexpected benefits of Merino swimwear is how useful it becomes when camping.

Whether we're swimming in a lake, paddleboarding, or simply spending the day near the water, I appreciate having swimwear that feels comfortable for hours on end.

I can swim, dry off, throw on a pair of shorts, and continue with the day without feeling like I need to immediately change. Our swimwear is breathable so it can dry out easily and double as comfortable underwear.

6. Merino Sleepwear

Good sleep makes every camping trip better.

Merino helps regulate body temperature overnight, making it comfortable during cool evenings and warm mornings alike.

On warm nights, a Merino top and underwear often double as my sleepwear, helping keep my packing list minimal.

Why I Choose Merino for Camping

Camping reminds me that we don't actually need very much.

The best camping gear is the gear you don't have to think about. Merino wool regulates temperature, manages moisture, resists odors, and works across a wide range of conditions, making it an easy choice for life outdoors.

Whether you're packing for a family camping trip, a weekend by the lake, a sail around coastal islands, or a longer road trip adventure, versatile clothing can help you bring less and enjoy more.
